    Richard H. Gentzel was born on 25th January 1923 in Centre County, Pennsylvania. Richard was the oldes of three chldren in the family of Daniel Leroy Gentzel and Cora Alda Gentzel-McCormick. After his education at the Harris Township High School, Richard started working as a shoemaker at the Kline Shoe Store in State College, Pennsylvania.
    He enlisted on 2nd March 1942 at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. After his initial training at Camp Wheeler, Georgia, Fort Benning, Georgia en Fort Bragg, North Carolina, he left for Europe in April 1943 as part of Company F, 2nd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division. Richard Gentzel took part in action in Northern Africa, Sicily and the Netherlands. Richard became missing in action during a patrol in a wooded area at the Wylerbaan near Thornsche Molen-Wyler on 6th October 1944. He is being comemmorated on the Tablets of the Missing at the American Cemetery in Margraten, the Netherlands.
