For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity, devotion to duty, coolness under fire, initiative, and utter disregard for his personal safety. Leslie landed under intense fire with a scout-sniper group before the initail assault waves, and used his flamethrower to neutarlize several dangerous enemy postions along the main pier. His exceptional daring was a source of inspiration to his men and to the assault waves advancing through the water behind him.
