"Has decorated himself bij acting in very brave and tactfull deads in the battle against the enemy, by as gunner of a heavy machinegun in Kazemat 63 on the banck or the river Meuse near Boxmeer on May 10th, 1940 repeatedly having shown extreme courage; under heavy artillery fire voluntarily left the kazemat for instance to get water form the river Meuse to cool the machinegun, having to climb over barbed wired fences; having done repairs to the machinegun outside the kazemat; being able to sustain fire for several hours under hevay artillery fire with several hits to the kazemat until a direct hit made further fighting impossible. Was injured during the fightings."
