Morrison, Robert Dale

Biography

Morrison enlisted in the US Navy Officer Candidate Program and was stationed at NAS Pensacola in December 1941. Thereafter, he flew numerous aerial missions in the Pacific Theatre primarily as a torpedo bomber pilot and sank many Japanese ships and transports. He received sevral commendations for meritorious service. He was shot down in 1943 and spent several weeks on a Japanese occupied island and was rescued by submarine. He flew high-altitude recon missions over the main Japanese homeland islands and also did the same for several months in the European Theatre. He commenced battle srvice as a First Lieutenant and ended as a Lieutenant Commander.
