"For extraordinary achievement while serving as a right waist gunner on a B-17 airplane on many high altitude heavy bombardment missions over enemy occupied Continental Europe. Exhibiting a determined fighting spirit in manning his waist gun, Sergeant Worthington drove off repeated desperate attacks of eney fighters, thereby contributing to the successful conclusion of many operational missions. The alertness, bravery, and unselfish devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Worthington on all of these occasions reflect the highest credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States."
