Citation:
"For heroic conduct on 26 December, 1944, about one-half mile from ***, Belgium. Techical Sergeant BOUTWELL, commanding a heavy machine gun squad, was captured with three others by an enemy patrol, but after about one and one-half hours, they broke away and escaped to their own lines. Technical Sergeant BOUTWELL reported the strength of the attacking force and the point they weere to attack thus alerting our troops tothe attack which materialized shortly thereafter. Buring the attack, Technical Sergean BOUTWELL organized his section;s position. His personal courage and leadership enabled his section to contribute greatly to the thwarting of the enemy's attempt to turn the Division's right flank. The acions initiative, and technical skill of Technical Seargeant BOUTWELL were in keeping with the highest standards of the Airborne Troops."
