"For gallantry in action on 8 August 1944, in France. Despite intense artillery and mortar fire which took a heavy toll of casualties in Private Leone’s section, he left the comparative safety of his foxhole to administer first aid to the wounded. While thus engaged he was wounded by shell fragments but continued his work until all the men were treated and evacuated. Private Leone’s courage and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces."
