Richard H. Selvidge, Technician Fifth Grade, 760th Tank Battalion. For gallantry in action on 19 March 1944 near Monte Cassino, Italy. As a volunteer on a rescue mission, Tech. 5 Selvidge accompanied his platoon leader in a light tank to evacuate three men from a disabled tank surrounded by enemy snipers and machine gun positions. On their return toward the friendly line, the tank was disabled and they were forced to abandon it. While assisting a wounded soldier to leave the tank, Tech. 5 Selvidge was wounded by small arms fire, and since then has been missing in action. His heroic assistance in evacuating a wounded fellow soldier typifies the finest tradition of the military service. Next of kin: Mrs. Hattie R. Selvidge (mother), Rossville, Georgia.
