For meritorious achievement in connection with military operations against the enemy on 26 December 1944, in Belgium. Enemy artillery inflicted heavy casualties among the member of a rifle company. Suffering penetrating wounds of both legs, Sergeant Stroud left a place of comparative safety, going forward to the area still under severe fire to assist in rendering first aid to the numerous wounded. This prompt attention prevented the complications of many wounds of these riflemen and his action expedited speedy evacuations. The courage and initiative of this man under enemy fire suffering painful wounds himself is highly commendable, reflecting credit upon himself and the Armed Forces.
