Godowski was killed at the market square of Tielt by a sniper. He was part of a Stuart tank crew.

"Lt Godowski died as he was talking to grandfather Lt Baert from the Belgian resistance. He was also shot, probably by the same sniper, but he survived. The M1, the personal weapon of Godowski is the possession of my uncle. The sign " LT GOD" is engraved in the stock." - Francis Deruyck
