Biography

Alexander Cecil Hill was a member of various Scout groups, eventually ending his time in the Scouts as a Leader at various levels in the 1960s.
Became a member of the Civil Defence (CD) in 1940. Was classified medically unfit as a result of injuries received and remained active in the CD during the war
Alexander Hill received an auditor's Diploma after the war and married Getrude (Trudy) Frieslander in 1952
Four children later they decided to move to Adelaide, Australia, in 1965 where he worked in accountancy across various companies until he retired in 1988.
Passed away as the result of cancer in 1995.

Citation:
"Although severely shaken by the explosion of a H.E. bomb Messenger Hill immediately posted himself on the main road and directed traffic whilst bombs were still falljng nearby. Later when the rajd had increased in intensity he was sent with an urgent message to the Report Centre.
During the journey he was twice blown off his bicycle by the explosion of bombs but each time remounted and eventually delivered his message. Although obviously suffering from his experiences he refused to remain at the Report Centre and returned to his Post where he continued to give splendid service throughout the night."
