    He has distinguished himself by exceptionally courageous asnd tactful actions in combat against the enemy during the years of occupation, providing assistance to some 100 Allied members of aircrews and 400 escaped Allied prisoners, receiving and caring for them as well as in their transportation to the southern part of the country where they were taken across the Dutch-Belgian border. He has been the founder of the organisation which operated in and around Hengelo until his arrest in October 1944. He was executed on Twenthe airbase.
