Minoru Ota served as Chu-sa (Commander) as commanding officer with the 6 Kure Kaigun Tokubetsu Rikusentai (6th Kure Special Naval Landing Unit). Later as Rear admiral he committed suicide on 13 June 1945, during the Battle of Okinawa. He was posthumously promoted to vice admiral.
