"For extraordinary achievement in aerial flight. He engaged the enemy aircraft in the face of great odds and while thwarting their attack on Allied ground forces, attacked and drove off enemy planes threatening his squadron leader. With complete disregard for his personal safety, Lt. Bunting repeatedly hurled himself into the enemy fighters until they were compelled to withdraw. By his superior airmanship and great daring and courage Lt. Bunting brought the highest distinction upon himself and the Army Air Forces."
