"On the evening of 19th April 1945 a crossing on the Kusten Kanal / MR 7688 M2 / was secured by an Infantry Battalion. Several of the supporting tanks were damaged, two of them slightly and reports received showed that they could be repaired by the Advance Workshop Detachment in a short time. Recovery of these tanks and their prompt repair was requested by the O.C. the Infantry. The area being still infested by snipers and paratroopers, a recovery tank was sent at 2200 hours and Captain Wyrwalski / from the Advanced Workshop Detachment Armoured Brigade Workshop / detached to supervise the work. The towing gear was already attached when the party was attacked by a small group of germans - Captain Wyrwalski promptly organised the defence and leading his small group in a spirited counter - attack drove of the enemy. When under cover of the Armoured Recovery vehicles machine gun the recovery party resumed its work.

By his quick decisive leadership and personal courage Captain Wyrwalski saved the 2 tanks from being destroyed".
