Biography

Horace Zane Askins was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge in 1945. He was inducted into the Army on 1-13-1944 and served in the 106th Infantry, Co. L, in the Ryukyus Campaign. His highest rank was Tech Sergeant. He was sgt. of his platoon also. After serving in Okinawa, he went with the 106th to Japan, where he served as an MP. Horace grew up in Shelby County, Texas. After the war, he returned to his occupation as a gearcutter operator at Lufkin Foundry & Machine Co. in Lufkin, Texas. He was first married to Mary Ruth Worsham until her death in 1949. He was then married to Barbara Nell Frazier until his death in 1969. Horace and Barbara had three children, Mary Alice, Martha Nell, and Horace Zane Jr.
