"Throughout the operations from 23 Oct to 4 Nov Lt-Col R.G.S. HOBBS displayed high powers of leadership, initiative & courage. He not only deployed and commanded his Regiment in action with the greatest efficiency - he was continually in the area of his forward O.P.s ensuring that the best possible observation was obtained by them. By frequent visits to the foremost infantry and tanks in very exposed positions - often under heavy M.G., sniper and artillery fire - he was often able to obtain information of the greatest value to the Division Command. On one occasion, as a result of this information being passed to 30 Corps, its objective was altered to include an important gun area which he had located. On two occasions he initiated local infantry and mortar attacks, taking part himself armed with a rifle, which mopped up snipers' positions in the area of Pt.33. This was a vital O.P. area for several days.

Hs courage, initiative and devotion to duty throughout this period were an inspiration to his Regiment and also to the Infantry he was supporting."
