He has distinguished himself in combat against the enemy by courageous and tactful deeds, displaying courage during the fighting near Overschie on May 10 and 11, 1940 and on May 13 by joining an attack by the Depot Luchtstrijdkrachten on a stronger and heavily armed enemy unit near Overschie. He voluntarry participated in the capture of enemy machine gun posts, being killed in the process.
