He has distinguished himself by deeds of exceptional courage and tact during various actions against terrorist gangs on eastern Jave in the period between July and September 1947 in the advance on Modjokerto, near Djember and Ambulu, continuously acting as commander at the head, displaying eminent and fearless leadership, always being there where danger was greatest and without any thought of himself encouraging his unit and spurring them on.
In addition, when an officer was killed in action near Modjokerto, by immediately taking over command and taking appropiate measures in order to defeat the terrorist gangs within the shortest time possible.
Finally by calmly continuing giving his orders, even after he had been seriously injured.
