For having distinguished himself in combat against the enemy by exceptionally courageous and tacxtful deeds on May 2, 1946 during the fighting near Ngembung and Kemendung on eastern Java by moving around under heavy fire almost unprotected to maintain the cohesion within his unit. Despite being injured, he permitted himself no time for treatment but continued to spur on his unit by word and example, inflicting heavy losses on the enemy.
