In the heavy defensive battles on the Eastern front, Oberleutnant Quest and his Batterie were able to bring a Soviet attack to a halt. Despite being all alone, they held their position for five hours and were able to infiltrate back through to friendly lines after firing off all their ammunition. In doing so Quest and his troops succeeded in preventing the encirclement of a large part of the Armee-Korps he was attached to. Quest would be awarded the Knight’s Cross for this action.
