The actions that led to Pfeiffer receiving the Knight’s Cross are described in the following Wehrmachtbericht supplement (dated 17.12.1944)…

“In the middle-Italian theatre the I./Grenadier-Regiment 755, under the leadership of Oberleutnant Pfeiffer, has held its position against heavy enemy attacks and brought the enemy heavy losses during the defensive battles west of Faenza. In this fighting the Bataillon captured 146 British troops (including a battalion staff) as well as various amounts of materiel and equipment.”
