Biography

Maria Wilhelmina "Riet" Wannet was born as son to Gerardus H. Wannet and Johanna Wannet-Peters. Riet worked in a home for sick persons in the Hague of which the inhabitants were evacuated to Groningen. Riet did not travel with them beceause her father thought that to be to dangerous. For the time being she lived at the Groenestraat A 37 in Bemmel. On February 22nd, 1944 she went to Nijmegen to pick up clothes from the dry cleaner. She also visited her friend André Brouwer, living at the Zeigelbaan 70 in Nijmegen. The house was hit by a bomb and caught fire. All inhabitants were killed.
