Biography

Carleton Summers, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Summers of Roulette, was a member of the National Guard organization at Niagara Falls and was drafted into service September 15, 1940. Private 1st class Carlton was stationed at Fort Dix, N. J. in the 44th Division, Co. L. 174th Infantry.

He is mislisted on the Military Times list of valor as Carleton L. Sells.

"For gallantry in action on 14 January 1945, in Belgium. Private Summers distinguished himself during an enemy counterattack which was led by enemy tanks which threatened to cause a withdrawal of his comrades. Private Summers advanced to a spot in front of friendly lines and delivered accurate bazooka fire at the tanks which crippled two of them. With their supporting tanks disabled, the enemy attackers were forced to withdraw. Entered military service from New York."
