Biography

Lieutenant Johannes Rexin (1.JG / 21), age 26 years, was stationed at Einsatzhafen Plantlünne and crashed near Roermond with his Messerschmitt BF 109 E1 with serial number 0089 on Monday November 20, 1939 at about 9:30 a.m. His badly mutilated body was found in the plane after the crash. His body was removed and transported to the St. Laurentius hospital.

Presumably he had lost course because of the morning mist. After having circled above the city a number of times, the plane crashed south of Roermond near the river Roer. The aircraft collided with the trees and was completely destroyed.

He was handed over to the German military authorities with military honors at the Vlodrop border crossing on November 24, 1939.
At noon the funeral procession left the St. Laurentius hospital.
In front the firing squad commanded by Lt. Duysens, followed by the music staff of the 6th Regiment led by Conductor van Leeuwen. The troops were commanded by Captain Bakker with Captain Dommisse as the funeral commander.
Authorities in the procession included: Mr. Schulz, Colonel Schmidt and Major Hamm.
