"At H Hour on the night Fri 23 Mar 45, Spr OLDHAM J was a driver of an LTV on the initial assault across the RHINE, carried out on WESEL by the 1st SS Bde (1st Special Service Brigade red.).
In the landing, the craft next to his was hit by mortar bombs and was set on fire. Spr OLDHAM having delivered his load, immediately went to the rescue and disregarding exploding amm and enemy fire, succeeded in extricating three wounded men, two of whom were very serious, and getting them away to safety and medical aid.
He showed great courage in the face of personal danger, and by his action was responsible for saving the lives of the wounded men."
