"Pilot II Windust has been captain of a 38 Group crew employed on the Berlin air lift. He has now completed 80 sorties to Gatow and the manner in which he has set about his tasks has been consistently cheerful and efficient. During the time he has flown on this operation he has shown a consistently high standard of cheerful enthusiasm for his task and an inspiring devotion to duty which has encouraged his fellow captains to emulate his example. During the past few weeks Pilot II Windust has been called on to operate in weather which has tested the skill, determination and perseverance of the best captains. To overcome these conditions he has established a high reputation among them for cool, determined efficiency and complete reliability which has been proof against the severest difficulties of the air lift. His performance has been outstanding. His genral bearing and conduct on the ground and in the air have provided an excellent example to his fellow aircrew."
