Formed as 1st Turkestan Rifle Division. On 13 February 1920 redesignated as 1st Turkestan Mountain Rifle Division. On 1 July 1936 redesignated as 83rd Turkestan Mountain Rifle Division. On 9 October 1943 redesignated as 128th Guards Rifle Division.
