Period:
Second World War (1939-1945)
Rank:
Gunner
Unit:
138th Field Regiment R.A., Corps Artillery, V Corps, British Army
Awarded on:
March 23rd, 1944
Recommendation:
"Gnr. Davies was a signaller in Major Curtis' O.P. Party during the attack by 5 Buffs on SAN SALVO on 6 Nov. With L/Bdr. Barnes he carried the wireless set and established communication with the Battery from a farm which was later found to contain a German Tank. He maintained communication and continued to assist in the passage of orders undeterred by his unnerving disclosure and then assisted in the transportation of the set to the forward Coy. This Coy was in an extremely isolated position, being sniped by enemy Infantry from three sides and also under fire from German Tanks and S.P. Guns. He continued to assist in the passage of orders during several trying hours, and his unfaltering calmness and courage helped Major Curtis to give Artillery support which inflicted heavy casualties on the enemy and assisted this Coy. in holding off the enemy counter attack for a considerable period.

He is strongly recommended for the award of the Military Medal."
