The ribbon is being awarded since 1961. Besides volunteers that have fought during the First World War in the World War I Batalion and in the Turkish Army, the decoration can be awarded to inhabitants of Israel of Israelian citizens that volunteered during the Second World War within the British Army, prior to 8th November 1944. When volunteered after this date, the inhabitant had to have served for over six onths in a row. The decoration can also be obtained by descendents if the person has passed away.
