Goldenen Buch der Flieger

The "Goldene Buch der Flieger" was not a portable decoration, but a book in which pilots were recorded who had a special achievement and awarded themselves in a very specific way, during the fullfilment of their duty (the German text sounds: „Anerkennung und das Gedenken jener Männer der Luftfahrt dienen, die sich durch besonders kühne und unerschrockene Taten im Flugdienst aus[ge]zeichn[et]“). In the book only 39 persons were recorded, of which 5 civilians and 34 military.

The book was created by decree [by Hermann Göring] of April 14, 1938. The book was accessible to the public in the "Hall of Honor" of the Reich Ministry of Aviation in Berlin until the end of World War II.

The person that was written in the book, received a document with the date of recording in the book. The document consists of four pages, with on the second page the award certificate itself and on the third page the citation.
