Herinneringsinsigne Binnenlandse Strijdkrachten 1944-1945

Prince Bernhard, at that time commander of the Dutch Interior Forces (BS), established this commemorative badge on 7 February 1945 to show his appreciation for the important work that had been carried out by the Dutch Interior Forces in liberated areas, often under very difficult circumstances, and that could be awarded to all members of the Dutch Interior Forces.

Although it was a private award, the badge could be worn by authorised persons on the uniforms of the Royal Netherlands Army from 6 June 1946.

Because the BS eventually had tens of thousands of members, many badges were awarded.

Description:
The Commemorative Badge is an oval bronze-coloured medal measuring 25 by 20 millimetres. On the front, a crowned "B" is visible with the words "BINNENLANDSCHE STRIJDKRACHTEN 1944-1945". In the margin, from the '4' of "1944" to the '1' of "1945", is the abbreviation "VE MI". These are probably the initials of the designer. On the back, the signature of Prince Bernhard is embossed. On the back, there is also a fastening to attach the insignia to the lapel of a jacket.

Certificate:
Every presented insignia was accompanied by a document with a by Prins Bernhard written tekst that states:

"To them who were in active service with the Binnenlandsche Strijdkrachten, was presented by me, as you will probably know, when leaving the force, an insignia, accompanied by a document, as thanks for their services which they gave for their country.

I also feel the need to also present the insignia posthumously to them, in service with the de Binnenlandsche Strijdkrachten, have ginven their life for freedom and the county, and I would like to present it to you as their family. I ask you to accept the insigina as a token of my respect and deepest gratitude for them who gave the highest sacrifice during battle."
