Naval General Service Medal (NGSM) 1915-1962

Description:
The Naval General Service Medal (N.G.S.M.) 1915-1962 was instituted in 1915 in recognition of service in the Royal Navy and the Royal Marines during minor campaigns that did not merit other campaign decorations.
In 1962, this medal, along with the General Service Medal (G.S.M.) 1918, was replaced by a new General Service Medal (G.S.M.) 1962.
Clasps could be awarded for specific campaigns such as:
- "PERSIAN GULF 1909–14" : For operations against piracy and slavetrade;
- "IRAQ 1919–20": For Gunboat actions during the Arabian revolt;
- "N.W. PERSIA 1920": For service during the maritine mission in the Caspian Sea;
- "PALESTINE 1936–39": For operations in Palestine;
- "S.E. ASIA 1945-6": For operations on Java, Sumatra and French Indochina;
- "MINESWEEPING 1945–51": For minesweeping operations;
- "PALESTINE 1945–48" For operations in Palestine;
- "MALAYA": For operations in Malaya during the crisis;
- "YANGTZE 1949": For the attack on H.M.S. Amethyst and other vessels by Chinese Communist troops;
- "BOMB AND MINE CLEARANCE 1945–46";
- "BOMB AND MINE CLEARANCE 1945–53"s;
- "BOMB AND MINE CLEARANCE MEDITERRANEAN";
- "CANAL ZONE" For service in the Suez Canal between October 1951 and October 1954;
- "CYPRUS": For EOKA operations, 1955–59;
- "NEAR EAST": For operations in the Suez Canal, 1956;
- "ARABIAN PENINSULAR – 1957–60": For operations against dissidents and bordercrossings;
- "BRUNEI": For operations in Brunei, Northern Borneo and Sarawak in December 1962.
From August 11th, 1920 onwards, it is permitted to wear the MiD badge on the ribbon.
