The original medal was instituted on September 4, 1958 by President Sukarno.
The medal is awarded to members of the armed forces who have served 8 years,
16 years, 24 years or 32 years of uninterrupted, obedient and loyal military service.
This medal is round in shape and made of bronze colored metal for 8 years of service, silver for 16 years of service and gold for 24 years of service, each measuring 25 millimeters in diameter.
On the obverse is a series of rice and cotton with the words "Tamtama Setia" in the center and below is the Roman numeral VIII for 8 years of service, the Roman numeral XVI for 16 years of service and Roman numeral XXIV for 24 years of service. On the back it says "Republik Indonesia".
The ribbon is 25 millimeters wide, 35 millimeters long and has 3 vertical strips in the colors light blue, dark blue and light blue that are the same width.
At a later date, the design of the award and the ribbon was slightly modified and vertical colored narrow bands were added to the ribbon. A 4th model for 32 years of service has also been added to this series (instead of the above-mentioned dark blue stripe an orange stripe is in the middle of the ribbon) with the roman numeral XXXII.
