The Navy/Marine Corps Unit Commendation was authorized in 1944
It can be awarded to any qualifying unit of the Navy or Marine Corps that distinguishes itself by outstanding heroism in combat against a hostile foreign force or for extremely meritorious service not involving combat but in support of military operations.
