At the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, the Naval Cadet with the highest overall mark on the Passing Out Examination was awarded the Robert Roxburgh Memorial Prize each term. Subject to the College Captain's approval, the winning Cadet could choose books, equipment, or other goods as part of the reward.
The prize was created in 1917 by Mrs. J. B. Roxburgh in memory of her son, Midshipman Robert Roxburgh, R.N., of H.M.S. Indefatigable, who died on May 31, 1916, at the Battle of Jutland. It was funded by interest earned from a £1,200 Government Stock that the Admiralty held in trust.
The Robert Roxburgh Prize Fund ceased to exist on 9 August 1996.
