Kriegsorden des Deutschen Kreuzes mit Brillianten

The German Cross in Gold with Diamonds (Deutschen Kreuz ins Gold mit Brillanten) is halfway 1942 instituted by Hitler. He let Peter Rath of Munich design the German Cross in Gold with Diamonds. The first example was delivered to the Reich Chancellery in October 1942. This German Cross version should rank above the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross (Ritterkreuz des Eisernes Kreuz) but below the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves. (Ritterkreuz des Eisernes Kreuz mit Eichenlaub) The German Cross in Gold with Diamonds is equal in design to the German Cross in Gold, the only difference is that in this version there are small diamonds placed in the golden wreath. There are in total 20 pieces of this award produced but they were never bestowed and remained locked up in the safes of the Reich Chancellery and Castle Klessheim.
