Dutch (1566 - present)

The Dutch nationality is for persons who were most part of their life "Dutch" or had formally the Dutch Nationality, as from the start of the resistance against the SPanish rule until today. Actually the Dutch independence and the rise of the Dutch nationality, started with the Iconoclastic Fury on August 10th, 1566. Although this resistance directed itself mostly to the Roman Catholic Church, is was in fact the first uprising against Spanish rule. The Battle of Heiligerlee on May 23rd, 1568 between the army of Lodewijk van Nassau and the Spanish Army is commonly seen as the start of the uprising of the Netherlands angainst Spanish rule and the start of the Eighty Years War.
