30 | For the first half of November the Regiment was holding the line on two separate fronts. 'B' & 'C' Sqns held the west bank of the R. MAAS in BOXMEER – VORTUM area while 'A' & 'D' Sqns took turn and turn about on the DEURNE front. Again apart from sporadic shelling and sniping nothing of moment occurred. Except that on the 13th one of our patrols moving out at first light to take over an OP was ambushed, the troop leader and troop sergeant were taken prisoner and their drivers were killed. From 20th - 22nd of the month 'A' Sqn came under command of 3 British Div and maintained a 'stop' post in a very exposed position which was mortared and sniped continuously. On the 22nd the Regiment's area of responsibility on the R. MAAS was increased and was held by two sqns in rotation with the remaining two in reserve. Again there was little or no activity until the night of the 25th when 'C' Sqn Blitz Troop posn was attacked by an enemy patrol and 3 troopers were taken prisoner and one wounded. No casualties were inflicted on the enemy. |
