14 | 0825 | The S.L. (741298 - 755298 - 768302 - 778303) was crossed at 0825 hrs and an adv of 1 mile was reported after 5 hrs dogged fighting by the infantry. The latter suffered hy cas during the early stages due to the effective conc of German arty and mortar fire 500 yds from the S.L. As a result 9 Inf Bde made a short withdrawal. Further gains were made by 185 Bde but MG and mortar fire from the left flank prevented more than very limited movement. |
