The general situation was as follows:- Gds Armd Div were in NIJMEGEN (on the river WAAL) and were guarding the southern approaches to the rd bridge in the East and the rly bridge in the West. The Americans had made an assault crossing in the area of the rly bridge and were est on the N Bank of R WAAL. |
