18 | During the night aba throughout early morning 1 KOSB maintained patrols in the canal area and reptd (a) RE had completed recce of canal bank (b) no enemy in the tunnel (c) no crossing of the canal made by own tps. The German forces extremely cautious in this area are known to occupy the far bank with tps of the German Air Force fighting in an inf role and formed into a Battle Gp. The policy of the German High Command tends toward grafting depleted remnants of one fmn with battered remnants of another, forming them into a battle gp the size and composition of which depends on the “material” to hand, then christening them with the name of the senior officer. |
