27 0750 A deserter from 2 Coy/489 Ersatz Bn gave himself up to a coy of 2 Lincolns and when interrogated at Div revealed. that his bn was approx 400-500 strong and in occupation of area 6923 - 7020. The coy he belonged to contained 103 non-Germans out of a total strength of 140 and their morale was extremely low. He further stated that several had expressed the wish to desert. His pl was on OP duty forward of the canal at 692229 and it was thus an easy task for him to desert.
