Winkie (NEHU.40.NS.1)

Biography

Winkie flew 120 miles to deliver a SOS message of an crashed plane in sea. Thanks to Winkie, a sergeant was able to find out where the Air Crew was. The saved Air Crew held in 1943 an dinner to honour Winkie. Winkie was there in her cage while the officers toasted her. Winkie was the first pigeon to be awarded with the Dickin Medal.
