Biography

At the end of World War Two, Ladislav Janicek was present in the prison Sankt Georgen in Bayreuth when it was liberated by American forces on April 14th, 1945. The US forces made him head of the prison.

Citation:
"For exemptionally meritorious achievement which sided the United States in the prosecution of the war against the enemy in Continental Europe from April 1945 to May 1945. Escaping from Zuchthaus Concentration Camp at Bayreuth, Germany, with six other compatriots, he made his way to an approaching column of the United States Forces. Until victory he remained with the unit as an interpreter and guide. On several occasions he gave valuable information to the U.S. Army. Dr. Janecek's exemplary conduct and outstanding service reflect high credit upon him and the Allied Armed Forces."
