Jack was born on December 16 1915 in North Vancouver, the son of John Paton Young and Jeanie Lockhart Young nee Ralston (both Scottish and deceased). He was the brother of Agnes Kennedy of Victoria British Columbia (his only beneficiary).
He was a purchasing agent and member of the Presbyterian Church. He spoke English and French at the high school. His hobby was photography and his sports were football, tennis, soccer, basketball and skiing.
He enlisted on October 25 1940 in Vancouver and he went thereafter on July 20 1942 overseas to the UK.
Jack was killed in action Tuesday March 30 1943 age 27 due to a crash at the urban area of Delden/Vorden before or after an attack on Berlin in Germany. The other fallen RAF Volunteer Reserve crew members were F/O Raymond G. Harris in grave 13, Sgt John M. Taylor age 21 in grave 12, F/O Victor J. Dowling in grave 15 and Sgt David M. Reed age 21 in grave 11. The other fallen RAF crew member was F/Sgt Albert Heptonstall in grave 14. The other RAF crew member F/Sgt E. Williams survived the crash and he became then a prisoner of war.
He served with the 51 (R.A.F.) Sqdn Royal Canadian Air Force.
