Maurice was born on February 25 1923 in Tisdale Saskatchewan, the son of George Preston Laycock and Susan Esma Laycock nee Jackson of Fairy Glen, Saskatchewan. They were married on February 24 1920 in Prince Albert Saskatchewan.
His brothers were Walter Raymond (also overseas with the RCAF), Stanley Bruce Jackson and Kenneth Allen Laycock.
He was a bank clerk and member of the United Church.
His sports were hockey, tennis, golf, basketball, baseball and softball.
He enlisted on November 28 1941 in Saskatoon Saskatchewan and he went thereafter on December 21 1943 overseas to the UK.
Maurice was killed in action on Saturday October 28 1944 age 21 due to a crash near the Holthuizersraat of the village of Twello before or after an attack on Deventer.

He served with the 439 Sqdn Royal Canadian Air Force.
