Biography

John was born on July 30 1923 in Ottawa, the son of Frank Leonard Tabor (English and deceased) and Sarah Jane Tabor nee Chambers (Irish) of Ottawa. They were married on October 5 1921 in Ottawa.

He was an apprentice printer and member of the Church of England and his sports were hockey and swimming.

He enlisted on April 30 1942 in Ottawa and he went thereafter on July 16 1943 overseas to the UK.

John was killed in action on Saturday June 17 1944 age 20 due to a crash in the Noordzee near Zandvoort, Holland before or after an attack on Sterkrade near Oberhausen in Germany. He washed up on July 19 1944 near pole 15 at Breezanddijk.

The other fallen RCAF crew members were P/O Robert E. Niles age 19 who was buried then at the Barradeel Pietersbierum Cemetery in grave 3-60 and he washed up on July 18 1944 near pole 66 at St. Jacobiparochie, F/O Harry Doggett age 21 who was buried then at the Dutch island of Terschelling in grave 120 and he washed up on July 20 1944.
The other fallen RCAF crew members were buried then at the Amsterdam New Eastern Cemetery in Plot 69 Row A Coll grave 1: F/O Leonard G. Hill age 29 and he washed up near Zandvoort, F/O William D. Carson age 27 and he also washed up near Zandvoort and F/O George R. G. Shannon age 33 and he was recovered on July 18 1944 from the sea.
The fallen RCAF crew member F/O Francis E. McQueen age 27 was buried then in Castricum in grave J-9 and he washed up on July 3 1944.

He served with the 426 Sqdn Royal Canadian Air Force.
