    "Cpl. Van Helvert was i/c a 2" Mortar during the enemy attack on HEDEL on 25 April 45. Although constantly under heavy mortar and small arms fire and later almost completely surrounded by enemy, he maintained his mortar in action most effectively until he was wounded.
    His determination and gallantry was a fine example to the remainder of the platoon and did much to hold what threatened to be a dangerous enemy breakthrough."
