- Period:
- Second World War (1939-1945)
- Rank:
- Capitaine (Captain)
- Awarded on:
- July 24th, 1945
Recommendation:
"After distinguished service in the clandestine organisation in Cornice, this officer was a volunteer for further work in France and was parachuted into the ardeches on the 14th April 1944.
Making full use of his previous experience Capitaine Casanova organised with efficiency the reception of men and material from base in North Africa which resulted in the arming of up to 5,000 men by D-Day. One ground in particular was considered ideal by the Royal Air Force, who in the course of repeated sorties never failed to locate it, and frequently commented on the efficiency of the reception party. This ground alone received one hundred men and over eighty tons of stores, of which forty-seven men and fifty tons of stores were dropped before D-Day.
Captiaine Casanova's close cooperation with the British and his considerable experience did much to assist the mission in clearing the Germans from the west bank of the Rhone and his *** of organisation and acceptance of all risks did much to help forward the Allied Cause.
It is recoomeded that this officer be appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (military division)(honorary).
Signed
Colin Gubbins
